National Team
“What an honour! To be able to play for my country and represent the team was one of the most highest rewards i can have in my career! And to captain the team and in the process to become all time leading goalscorer of my country is one of the things in my career i am most proud of! It didn’t matter if we were wining or losing, every time stepping on the pitch with that shirt represented a great joy and pride for me”
Dimitar Berbatov’s debut for the Bulgarian national team is in 1999, when he was only 18-years-old. He soon becomes a key player and from 2006 to 2010 takes on the role of team captain. Up to his retirement in 2010, Berbatov played in 78 matches, scoring 48 goals, which makes him the all time top goal scorer for the national team. He is also a record seven times winner of "Player of the year" award in Bugaria!
